Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640 - with Ski Box!

How I love people that dare to step outside normal boundaries but still manage to retain the style vital to their persona. A matte black Murcielago isn’t really what most people would consider appropriate but I’d say it’s a hell of a lot better than this crap. I have long been a proponent of matte paint jobs as they differ from the norm without retorting to flames and trucker motifs, like naked ladies or fairytale figures (he must really love Zorro).
Another aspect of matte paint is that you can’t get pigeonholed like you would in a Range Rover Sport that Project Khan style-raped (drug dealer) or the preposterous Porsche (idiot), although you need to be careful with just what you colour in matte, or else the whole system will turn faster than King Midas’ ugly cousin turned things into crap, instead of gold. A matte sports car (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg), fine but steer clear of tarting up a Rolls Royce, Maybach or Bentley as that’s the equivalent of hair plugs - tragic.
The fact that he has also mounted a ski box, matching the car’s colour goes to show that creativity takes you a long way. Let me hear the grandfather, a survivor of the Great Depression, say that skiing is an honest job. Didn’t think so. Sure, an RS6 could’ve probably gotten the job done as well, or better, than a Murcielago, but that’s beside the point, in that Jon Olsson’s trademark is doing what no one has done before, be it big air jumps or fitting ski boxes to Lambos. Yes, I said Lambos, plural. He had (or still has, not sure,) a Gallardo also fitted with a ski box, and the whole sha-bang was painted in snow camouflage.

luxury car of the future


To engineer a luxury car of the future, today's designers must first conceive of what luxury will mean in the year 2030. Will it just be about the car's curb appeal? Will drivers -- and passengers -- expect not only to be comfortable in their luxury cars but also pampered? If so, then perhaps future luxury will be delivered through tranquility, speed and control.
Tranquility certainly appears to be on the minds of Barcelona, Spain-based car designers Ficosa International. In 2005, Ficosa re-imagined a car's interior in the Senzai. The designers took their cues from nature, including elements like water and wood and even integrating the perception of wind within the car's cabin. Their ideas were based around Japanese Zen gardens.
An illuminated stream, enclosed in glass, falls from the top of the Senzai's dashboard to the rear floorboards, separating the driver from the passenger. On either side of the stream, the floor consists of Japanese-inspired sand gardens, which extend a warm glow to the interior cabin [source: Car Design News]. Raked sand lends a windswept impression to the interior.
Those of us who expect to shell out $320,000 for a luxury car by 2030 should keep an eye on Keio University in Japan. That was the going rate for the Eliica, an 8-wheel electric car designed by Keio engineers when it debuted as a prototype in 2005 [source: Gizmag]. Each of the Eliica's wheels has its own 100-horsepower electric motor, making the car capable of high speeds and smooth handling [source: Auto Express]. In fact, although the Eliica lacks an engine and transmission, the electric motors driving the car can produce speeds of up to 230 miles per hour [source: Gizmodo].

2007 Acura RDX Turbo


The Acura RDX is Acura's first compact luxury crossover SUV. Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006.
The RDX takes over from the MDX as Acura's entry-level crossover SUV, as the MDX continues to grow in size and price. The RDX competes with other compact luxury SUVs such as the BMW X3, Lincoln MKX, and Land Rover LR2; other competitors include slightly larger crossovers such as the Lexus RX and Volvo XC90 as well as luxury-option versions of vehicles such as the Subaru B9 Tribeca and Mazda CX-7. The RDX is assembled in Marysville, Ohio. Although the dimensions of the vehicle are similar to that of the Honda CR-V, Acura claims the RDX uses a unique platform developed to handle the vehicle's advanced all-wheel drive system. Sales have been slow. 3832 units have been sold in the first two months of 2007 which is below forecast. Incentives will be offered to help sales.
The RDX is powered by Acura's first turbocharged engine. The 2.3-liter I4 K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. Acura variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood. The Acura RDX engine is rated at 240 bhp @ 6000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft/lbf. @ 4500. The EPA estimated fuel mileage is 19 city and 23 highway miles per gallon. New more realistic EPA mileage estimates as of February 2007 are 17 city and 22 highway. The recommended fuel is premium unleaded.

2008 Lexus IS350


Lexus tried to play in this field when it introduced the IS 300 in 2001, but company officials readily admit that the first IS never delivered "a total Lexus experience." However, according to Bob Carter, Lexus group vice president, the all-new 2006 Lexus IS 350 is meant to take "dead aim at setting a new standard of class-leading performance."
As the burgundy IS 350 I'm piloting deftly drifts through the sharp left-hander, before straightening out and rocketing away with all 306 horsepower churning from its 3.5-liter V6, I realize the car is indeed superbly refined, supremely confident…and subtly uninspiring.
There's no denying that the new IS 350 is bursting with cutting-edge technology. In fact, Lexus is quick to point out the many "segment firsts" offered on this latest model, including direct fuel injection, keyless entry and start, adaptive (and bi-xenon) headlights and radar cruise control. So if "setting a new standard of class-leading performance" means offering the first sport sedan with "steerable" headlights, precollision safety technology and push-button engine starting, Lexus has succeeded.
But as capable and solid as the car feels when tearing along Angeles Crest Highway, I'm left with an undeniable impression — I'd rather be driving a BMW 3 Series.

2011 Ferrari F450


It was five years ago that the current Ferrari F430 debuted at the 2004 Paris Motor Show and the storied Italian sports and racing car manufacturer is currently hard at work creating a successor designed to both increase power while decreasing emissions and fuel consumption at the same time. Dubbed the F450 by virtue of its enlarged 4.5L V-8 reportedly based on the present 4.3L unit, speculation has power surpassing that of the 430 Scuderia at 500 horses or more.
While the mule our spy shooters caught undergoing winter testing is still wearing modified F430 bodywork, the larger fenders, air scoops, and exhaust system all hint at the need for a wider stance and increased breathing -- no doubt, for a car that will be creating more power. The F450 will also reportedly receive Ferrari's new dual-clutch gearbox that debuted in the California. The new gearbox features quicker, smoother shift action than the automated manual presently used in the F430.

Pagani Zonda


It is the beauty and the beast at the same time. The provocative and futuristic Zonda design is the creation of Horacio Pagani, and is a result of the intense search for aerodynamic and ergonomic aesthetics linked to the need to create a sensational and exceptional car. It is wild and raw, and surely won't leave you indifferent. It is interesting that Horacio used his wife for a model during designing this car. And actually, when looked from above, Zonda really has the figure of a supermodel.

Nissan Murano 2009

Introduced in 2003, the Nissan Murano has been a success story for the company. One of the better crossover SUV’s from back when that terminology was just coming into common usage, the Murano was due for an update. The 2009 Nissan Murano was released in order to answer the call of competing in a crossover marketplace that is a lot more crowded now than when the vehicle was initially introduced.
From the outside, the new Murano does not differ greatly from the vehicle it is replacing. The same general dimensions are retained, with a slightly more muscular look and a more prominent, chrome-filled front grille. LED tail lamps are new for the rear and are placed vertically on the trailing edge of the fenders, in place of the triangular horizontal wedges of old. A glass skylight acts as a second sunroof for rear passengers, and a larger rear window is integrated into the hatch. 19-inch wheels are standard, while 20’s are available as an option.

Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid Concept 2007

If you ever want to be uninspired, just take a trip down to the local car lot and walk through the compact car section. There you will see row after row of basic transportation, vehicles designed to take you to work, go get groceries and in a pinch make a day trip outside the city. Given that buyers in the segment don’t expect much more than a reliable vehicle that starts every day and is easy on gas, manufacturers tend to engage in the most pedestrian of styling. This renders these vehicles no more attractive than a nice refrigerator or other appliance. Given their size and economy-orientation, many entry-level hybrid vehicles also get painted with the same brush by automotive designers, especially given the difficulty in placing enough battery capacity in such a small package. When push comes to shove, these designers almost always opt for form to follow function.
There was a time, however when companies tried to inject a little bit of excitement into the looks of subcompact cars. While they might not have lit any fires when it came to performance, vehicles like the Honda CRX at least set themselves apart from the rest of the pack by being fun to drive and looking the part as well. The new 2007 Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid concept is an attempt to echo the CRX and put forth the assertion that small hybrid cars can be exciting as well as economical. Powered by Honda’s standard gas-electric system, this attractive coupe marries a long, sloping front with a truncated rear deck, managing to avoid any abrupt or hard lines. The vehicle closely resembles the egg-shaped Civic SI of years passed, but with a more updated feel. The hybrid setup generates 93 horsepower from a 1.3 liter 4 cylinder gas engine, and this output is assisted by a 20 horsepower electrical motor. During braking the engine can drop down to using only one cylinder, maximizing fuel economy while the regenerative braking system recharges the vehicle’s batteries.

Cadillac Presidential Limousine


Cadillac has a very long history in delivering presidential limousine. It all started back in 1938 with the "Queen Mary" and "Queen Elizabeth" Cadillac Convertible. And in 2009 the company revealed the new presidential limousine for the president Barack Obama.
Inside and out, the Cadillac Presidential Limousine includes many of the brand’s signature design elements. Assertive, modern and elegant, the front of the car includes the intricate, dual-textured grille made famous by Cadillac’s most popular current models, the CTS sport sedan and Escalade. Vertical design elements, such as the car’s front and rear lighting, mirror those used on production models.

Lexus HS 250h 2010


Lexus unveiled today at the Detroit Auto Show world’s first ever dedicated luxury hybrid vehicle: the HS 250h, the fourth hybrid and the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its lineup. Sales will begin later in the summer
The HS 250s is powered by Lexus’ first four-cylinder gas engine: the 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle that develops 187 hp. The highly efficient Atkinson-cycle engine, made possible by the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system, allows the expansion/power stroke to be longer than the compression stroke so that combustion energy can be more effectively used for production of engine power.

Lexus RX 350 2010


The 2010 Lexus RX 350 will go on sale this month at a price of $36,800 for the front-wheel drive (FWD) model and $38,200 for the all-wheel drive (AWD) version.
The 2010 RX 350 teams a revised 3.5-liter V6 engine with an all-new six-speed Multi-Mode Automatic Transmission. Horsepower is increased to 275 at 6,200 rpm from 270 in the previous generation, while ninety percent or more of the 256 lb.-ft. of peak torque is available from 2,300 to 6,100 rpm, an optimal range where torque is most utilized. The new six-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous five-speed, and the Multi-Mode allows the driver to shift manually when desired by first moving the gated shift lever to the “S” slot and then pushing it forward ("+") to up shift and backward ("-") to downs

Mercury Mariner VOGA 2009


VOGA means fashion in Italian. It is no wonder why Ford designer Camilo Pardo, the designer of the Ford GT, chose this name when he introduced the upscale appearance package in 2006 on the vehicle named after the Italian fashion capital, the Mercury Milan. Since then Mercury has expanded the elegant VOGA line to include the Mercury Mariner crossover based on the Ford Escape.
Being an aesthetics package, the VOGA option is much more about design than function. In order to purchase the high-class VOGA equipped Mercury, future Mariner owners must first upgrade to a Mercury Mariner Premier, and then purchase the Moon and Tune package that includes a large panoramic sunroof and a seven speaker MP3 compatible sound system and much more

2009 Ferrari F70


The Ferrari F70 will be based on the Aurea Concept launched by Ferrari in 2004. The Aurea Project was born from the desire to place the F1 DNA on a normal car. This is what the new F70 will be about: a car with the design and power of a F1 car, but specially designed for the road.
On designing the Enzo, Ferrari needed to make some compromises in order that both the design and the technologies of the car to be satisfied. So they build the Enzo on aerodynamic consideration. But when they build the FXX they have realized that the Enzo could have all the technologies they had to give up. And in the F70 case all the aerodynamic will be hide under the car. The result is that the exterior design of the F70 won’t be affected by compromises, like in the case of the Enzo due to the aerodynamic technology developed by Ferrari and used in the FXX.

Ferrari F450

Ferrari has begun the development for the successor of their best seller compact mid-V8 supercar. Following a line of respectable ancestors, like the F355, 360 Modena or the currently in production F430, the new car is expected for not sooner than 2010. With a supposed displacement of 4.5 liters, the new Ferrari is expected to be named F450.
Spy photographers have caught in tests several mules that point clearly that a replacement for the F430 is in development al Maranello. Driving on the Fiorano race-track and disguised as F430 Challenge Stradale, the test cars show a medium development stage for the smallest Ferrari.
Early rumors pointed that the new car will be equipped with a V10 engine, in order to be successfully compete against the Lamborghini Gallardo. The changes made to Formula 1 regulations, that nowadays require the use of V8 engines, make this step irrational; therefore it is logical for Ferrari to stick with the traditional V8 configuration.

The Hyundai Nuvis


Hyundai, in particular, has capitalized on the positive momentum it generated from winning 2009 Car of the Year at the Detroit auto show for its Genesis sedan. It debuted the Nuvis hybrid concept--with gull-wing doors, no less--at today's press conference and prominently displayed its 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe, the two-door version of its first foray into the luxury sector.
The $96,000 2010 Hyundai Equus, though not likely to appear in the U.S. anytime soon, is another step into luxury for the South Korea-based company. Essentially a longer version of the Genesis, the sedan is rumored to pack 420 horsepower and is Hyundai's most expensive and plush vehicle to date.
World car of the year winners were also announced Thursday morning, with the Volkswagen Golf MK VI taking top honors. A panel of 59 international jurors chose the gutsy Golf as the best overall car of 2010; it beat out the Ford Fiesta and Scion iQ (a future competitor to Smart). In other categories, the Nissan GT-R won the title of best performance car and the Fiat 500 won for best design. The hydrogen fuel-cell-powered Honda FCX Clarity earned the best green car of the year distinction.

Kia Sorento (2009)


The firm wheeled out star designer Peter Schreyer to help unveil the all-new Sorento. Surprisingly, the compact SUV looks uninspired. And inside it was a letdown with scratchy plastics giving it a utilitarian feel of Kias past. Schreyer’s influence was more obvious on the second new car on the Kia stand. Called the VG it’s a handsome-looking BMW 5-series sized saloon. A production version is being launched at the September 2009 Frankfurt motor show. In its white pearlescent paint it looks the part. Sadly, it’s unlikely to back that up with a rip-roaring drive as it’s based on the front-wheel drive platform of the Hyundai Grandeur ocean-going liner.

Hyundai Blue


The big noise on Korea’s best-selling car maker’s stand was its eco-friendly Blue Drive strategy and, more significantly, the launch of its first hybrid production car. The Elantra petrol-electric vehicle uses a 1.6-litre LPG-powered engine with power boosted by a 15kW electric unit. It goes on sale in summer 2009 and Hyundai UK could take the model, believing its 102g/km and 70-plus mpg will prove attractive to fleets. Elsewhere, the firm was rightly making a big deal of its good-looking Genesis saloon and coupe. The only SUVs present on the stand were hydrogen fuel-cell models, further emphasising the firm’s Blue Drive programme

Ssangyong C200


There was palpable relief on the Ssangyong stand in Seoul as the motor show press day followed a company conference where its rejuvenation package had been outlined to worried importers. This is being led by the C200, a Nissan Qashqai-style crossover SUV that will come in both two -and four-wheel drive formats. Production of Ssangyong’s first ever monocoque car starts in November 2009 and it’ll be on sale in the UK for March 2010, promising a cheap alternative to traditional makers. The C200 was in sporty Aero and Eco versions, the latter using a diesel hybrid engine which the company is convinced represents the future of motoring
